September 27, 2013 - Cape May

2676-13 Hi everybody. Well, we left today for our big road trip. Yesterday was kind of interesting. My mother got me a massage, a nice relaxing massage. In the middle of the massage. The therapist that was giving the massage picked up the phone. It was a reverse 911 call. The call said, "Lock up all your doors and windows. There is a murderer on the loose." Then the house was surrounded by helicopters. My neigbor's dog was barking and my dad ran into the room with a loaded shotgun and said, "Everything is under control." Well, I immediately wanted to pee in my pants. Is this going to be the start of what my trip is going to be like? You can't make this stuff up. Anyway, that was yesterday. They never did catch the guy, so I'm glad we left.

Today was the first day of our road trip. It went real good, but you know, I realize how messed up I am. Doing everyday things is really difficult. But like I said, Life is Therapy, so I carry on.

Anyway, I'll keep these blogs short. We're at Cape May right now, in New Jersey. Tomorrow will be a big day because we catch a ferry, take a bridge. I'll talk to you guys later. This is B. Nice & Team B. Nice signing off. Talk to you tomorrow. Love, B. Nice

September 24, 2013 - Almost gone

UntitledHi you guys! Hey, we're getting ready for our trip. Got the car cleaned. I'm ready to go. It's pretty cool actually cause you know, I'm breaking my routine. Remember, when you have TBI, life becomes therapy. Like I said before, just because your therapy ends, you don't stop. Keep going. It's really important. How else are you gonna get better? Sit around and watch TV? Anyway, it's been pretty exciting getting ready for the ultimate road trip. I basically have a production editor, a filmmaker, two childhood friends that will drive and help me out, and Mom, who's well, mom. It's all gonna be fun. Oh, Dad will be here to hold down the fort with our dog. He's not coming on the trip. But check it out! I got an article in the NYTimes. My friend here will include a link. http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/09/24/double-vision-mirrored-in-photographs/?smid=pl-share

I hope you have a good week. We'll let you know from the road where we're at.

Love, B. Nice

P.S. I think it's important I tell you I'm definitely not where I thought I would be. I thought, a few years ago, I'd be better off by now. I'm still a mess, but it'll make it even more of a challenge. I just wanted to share that with you. Don't forget to check out the NYTimes article. Yo, if the link doesn't work for some reason, you can always google: lens.blog.brian.nice. That works. See you next week. Love, B. Nice

Getting ready for the trip

Julie - by Diane Roka

Hi you guys. Wow! We're getting ready for our trip. We leave in only 2 weeks. I thought I'd be much better, but I'll go as I am. Good to go. My friends just have to throw me in the car.

We ordered FedEx supplies cause I'll shoot film every day and every night we'll send the film out to be developed. The film crew is getting ready. I should say, the documentary crew is getting ready. We're lining up some interviews like with an artist named Chuck Close, my surgeon, etc. Should be good. These are all people that are creative and have gone through something similar.

My Mom is working on the itinerary. I just wanted to get in the car and go, but she has it all worked out with our producer, Erin. I guess it should be a little more structured like they are doing it. I just wanted to go. I guess it's kind of symbolic. Anyway, I just wanted to give you an update. We go soon! I'll keep you posted. Love, B. Nice

September 10, 2013

Brian, by Diane RokaHi everybody. Welcome to another week in Paradise. I said that a little sarcastically. A girl stopped by here at my parent's house and did a portrait of me in pencil form. It was pretty cool. She was another traumatic brain injury survivor. You would never know she used to have traumatic brain injury. The only symptoms are 1. Noise - she can't handle too much noise, and 2. she can't handle too much stimulus. I thought, what a great excuse to not deal with Ex's. Anyway, the results of her drawings are pretty cool. Two of my friends put on a great party this week. It was a good party. I saw some people that I haven't seen in like five years! Hey, guess what! We reached our goal - our budget for the trip! Isn't that cool. We can actually go now. You know I used to fund my projects by doing commercial work, but since I don't do that now I have to rely on grants or other people to help out. I just want to say thanks to everybody.

Going back to the party, it was a wrap up party for the Indiegogo fundraising campaign. Those two women organized the party and did a great job. They know who they are, and I thank them again.

Not much else to report. I did some more swimming this week and everyone remarks I'm getting better and better. It's slow, but it's working. I'll keep this blog short like I promised. I'll keep you guys updated next week.

Love, B. Nice
