Hi everybody. Welcome to my blog where I talk about my past. I talk about my past to forget about my present. Although, today I got a bit of good news. I’m going to meet with a senator about the sidewalks. I believe NY State should look after its citizens and wherever there’s a state road there should be a state sidewalk. So here we go. Step 1 - meet with the state senator. I’m also gonna form a YouTube channel for people like myself. Now let’s talk about the past.
When I lived in Australia, every six months I had to leave the country and re-enter. I would always go to New Zealand and spend about two weeks on the South Island. One of my favorite places was Milford Sound, right near Queenstown. It was beautiful there. Above is kind of a distorted view of Milford Sound. I lived in Australia in the ‘80’s. You know, getting a visa was easier back then. I lived there under a tourist visa back then. Whenever they questioned me about being there I would say “Hey dude, I’m just looking for a good wave.” I totally looked like a spoiled surfer brat. You know, long blond hair, a forever tan. It seemed to work. But I knew I had to get legal, so I finally got a resident visa. I had a story of how I got the resident visa but I don’t think I’m gonna talk about it. I think I’ll plead the 5th on this one. But let’s put it this way, I was in the perfect place, you know, Australia was a criminal colony. Australia was great though. I miss it a lot. And yes, it was full of the perfect wave. Everywhere I went on the coast there seemed to be awesome waves. Especially around Brisbane. The west coast was like the Wild West. When I lived there I went west over to Perth then drove north. The highway just ended. I’m sure it’s not like that now. But it was amazing over by Perth. There was a city of rocks just south of Perth. I felt like Fred Flintstone. All the rock formations look like buildings. You expected Dino the Dinosaur to walk by! I’m sure it’s all changed now. Actually my friend lives over there and she said it has changed a lot. Good wine though. And today the wine is awesome.
Anyway, getting back to the visa, I’m sure it’s more difficult to live there. They must be real strict. I was there at the perfect time. After I got legal I shot for about six magazines. I did about one editorial a week. You know editorial is magazine work. Good for the portfolio. I built up a great portfolio after about 12 years of living there. That portfolio brought me to Europe where I started working right away. Eventually I ended up in New York. Australia was a great place to start. That wasn’t really the plan. I just went there because my grandparents lived there for a while. I went there as a kid and I always wanted to go back.
