Hi everybody. Welcome to my blog where I talk about my present.
The other day I met a young woman whose father had a similar injury to mine. I encourage anyone who has a traumatic Brain injury to pick out a project to focus on one thing to make life better. For example, I still do my photography. It might not be the fashion photography like I used to but the images I make now are more painterly. It took a while to get used to, but I need help in taking photos. I’m not at all like I used to be. I can’t direct people. What I do now is I work with the environment. Landscapes. You don’t have to direct a landscape. I still recognize good light when I see it and I know what to do. I just need help. Above is an example of what I’ve been shooting recently. And below is an image of what I used to do for fashion magazines.
The other thing I’m working on right now are better sidewalks for everyone, especially for people like me. I’m in a wheelchair. Some of our sidewalks here are terrible. I don’t think people understand how difficult it is to navigate on a footpath that’s been blacktopped over. Any little bump or divot shakes my hand and I move violently to the right or left. Not a good situation to be in when you’re two feet away from on-coming traffic. The whole thing is rather stressful, so I go real slow, and my health assistant stands right next to me. I can’t even recall how many times that guy has saved me. Anyway, I’ll get off my soapbox.
The other thing I’d like to talk to you about is asking for help. It’s like catch 22. You really need the help, but after a while, people get tired of helping you. You’re in a conundrum. I truly believe the state should provide you with a personal assistant. Otherwise, you’re gonna go through friends like toilet paper. Nice visual, right…?
Anyway, that’s about it for this week. Let’s give my friend here a break, cause the blog’s short. Can you believe she stuck by my side for 15 years doing this blog? That’s a good friend. So let’s all thank her. Thank you.
Love and miss you guys. Love, B. Nice
